Volunteer
Share your time and skills to make
a real impact
Volunteers are the backbone of Turning Tides. By contributing your time and expertise, you help people affected by homelessness to rebuild their lives and look to the future with optimism. Whether it’s cooking meals, driving vans, supporting events or sharing professional skills, every role matters. Volunteering isn’t one-way; many find it brings new confidence, connections and a sense of purpose. With flexible opportunities and support from our Volunteer Team, you can find a role that fits your life and interests.
Why Volunteer with Turning Tides?
Your skills can create tangible change. Every hour given by our volunteers strengthens our services, supports people in need and builds a more connected community.
Volunteering also offers personal enrichment:
-
A sense of purpose and contribution
-
Positive impact on wellbeing and mental health
-
Opportunities to develop new skills or build on existing ones
-
Connections with a supportive community
From lending a hand at events to providing direct support, your time helps to change a life.
Our volunteering roles
We have a range of volunteering roles across our services. If you don’t see a role that fits your skills or availability, get in touch – we often create opportunities based on what volunteers can offer.

Your Volunteering Experience
We aim to make volunteering simple, supported and fulfilling. You will have an induction to learn more about the role and the organisation, meet the team and cover essential guidance. From there, you can shadow experienced volunteers, access role-specific training and receive ongoing support.
Flexible schedules allow you to contribute in ways that fit your life. Along the way you’ll gain skills, experiences and friendships, while knowing your time is making a real difference.

Corporate volunteering
Is your team looking to do something meaningful together? Corporate volunteering offers a chance to make a real difference for people affected by homelessness in West Sussex, while bringing your team closer and building new skills. Teams can get involved in activities like gardening, decorating, supporting in our donations hub or helping to set up our properties. Every contribution has a tangible impact, supporting the services we provide and the people we work with.
Volunteering together also helps staff engagement and supports Corporate Social Responsibility goals. Many teams find it energising, inspiring and a great way to connect with the local community. Organisations that have volunteered with us say their staff leave with new insights, connections and a real sense of achievement. To get your team involved, contact volunteering@turning-tides.org.uk and we’ll help find a suitable volunteering activity for you.
