Organise a fundraiser
Put your own spin on fundraising
Hosting your own event is a brilliant way to raise money for Turning Tides while doing something you love – whether that’s dancing, baking, singing or simply bringing people together. Every event helps us support local people facing homelessness.
We’ve put together a fundraising pack with everything you need to get started. Download it below to make planning your event simple and stress-free.
Get Inspired
There’s no one right way to fundraise – creativity and community spirit are what make each event special. Here are a couple of examples of what our fantastic supporters have done:
- Zumba with Jo hosted a Zumbathon, bringing together seven dance instructors and over 60 participants for a fun-filled fitness fundraiser.
- The Quayside Ukes, a local ukulele club, have organised lively band nights and music parties to raise funds. Derek Parr, lead club member, says: “Homelessness is a terrible situation and we recognise it could happen to anyone at any time due to difficult life events. Raising money through simply running a raffle and donations from members is a starting point for our involvement with Turning Tides.”
Host Your Own SleepOut
If you’ve been inspired by our SleepOut events, you can hold your own version with friends, family, colleagues or at your school. It’s a powerful way to raise awareness and experience just a fraction of what rough sleeping might feel like, safely and together.
Our SleepOut pack includes tips on choosing a location, staying safe, and sharing your story online to encourage donations. Whether you sleep in a garden, community hall or even your living room, every participant helps us to bring people in from the cold.
WALK A MILE IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES
Get your family, friends, and colleagues involved – the more, the merrier! Every step you take and every pound you raise will help transform the lives of local people experiencing homelessness in West Sussex.
For most of us, home is a place of safety, security and comfort. But for some, that stability doesn’t exist. For many people facing homelessness, they must walk for hours just to find shelter, food, or a safe place to rest. It’s estimated that someone without a home can walk up to 11 miles a day simply to survive.
Host Your Own Dog Walk
Host your own Sponsored Dog Walk to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness. By taking part with your dog, you’ll be making a difference to the lives of local people experiencing homelessness.
For most of us, home is somewhere we can rely on as a place of safety, security and comfort. But many people across West Sussex have nowhere to call home. They might be forced to sleep in carparks, shop doorways or hidden in the woods. Others may be sleeping in their cars or on a friend’s sofa. Homelessness is on the rise.
Other great ideas include:
- Sponsored challenges: such as a cycle, swim or 10,000-step challenge
- Themed dinners or bake-offs: host a “soup night” or a “Great Turning Tides Bake-Off”
- Craft or art sales: showcase local creativity while supporting a good cause
- Charity gigs or open mic nights: perfect for musicians and performers
Whatever you do, it doesn’t have to be big — just heartfelt.
