Digital Inclusion Volunteer
At Turning Tides, we know that homelessness has so many possible root causes – domestic violence, debt, addiction, grief or mental health challenges, to name a few.
We believe that real change comes from more than a roof over someone’s head. With kindness and experience, our team of staff and volunteers help people tackle the issues behind their homelessness. Homelessness must never be normalised; we stand for a world where every person has a place to call home.
Volunteers are the backbone of Turning Tides. By contributing your time and expertise, you help people affected by homelessness to rebuild their lives and look to the future with optimism.
A bit about the role:
Join our new Digital Inclusion Project and help Turning Tides’ clients build confidence with technology. The project aims to improve digital access and inclusion by providing devices, tailored training, and supportive drop‑in sessions that also encourage social and community connection.
As part of the team, your ideas, knowledge, and insights are always welcome. We’re looking for someone who is patient, flexible, and enjoys supporting others to learn at their own pace.
What goes on here?
Turning Tides is a community led homelessness charity operating in Worthing, Littlehampton, Horsham, Mid Sussex, and surrounding areas. We help hundreds of men and women, providing a wide range of services to support them towards a sustainable, fulfilling life within the community. Turning Tides remains determined to end local homelessness – a reality that can only be achieved through finding shared purpose with clients, other services, and the wider community.
What will I be doing?
You will support clients—mostly in group sessions, but sometimes one‑to‑one—to develop essential digital skills. This may include helping with:

- Writing emails and using simple office tools
- Accessing online banking and benefits

- Completing web searches, forms, and setting up online accounts
- Working towards the Essential Digital Skills Framework
- Supporting Learn My Way sessions and encouraging independent learning
What Training will I receive?
Before you start your volunteering, you will be invited to an induction. During this induction we will share with you our Volunteering Handbook.
The induction will cover Professional Boundaries, Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity and be a chance for you to find out more about Turning Tides and ask any questions.
You will be provided with copies of
- Volunteering Handbook

- Health & Safety Policy
- Fire Safety Policy
- Relevant Risk assessments for your role
The expectation is that you read these documents and adhere to these throughout all your volunteering activities.
This role requires online training, and we ask that you can commit to this. You will be sent a link to MeLearning after your induction with the relevant courses to your role.
Commitment and Timeframe
2 hours minimum per week, times and extra hours can be flexible to suit the need of digital support from different services.
