Young people have an incredible passion for fairness and social justice – and that energy can make a huge difference to people experiencing homelessness in our community. By involving your school, college or community group, you’re helping students learn about empathy, teamwork and the power of collective action.
Learning opportunities
We offer talks, workshops, classroom resources and activities that give pupils a deeper understanding of homelessness. Tailored to different ages, these sessions explore the realities of homelessness in a creative and engaging way. By being open and honest with young people we can break down stigma, build compassion and community spirit, encouraging them to see homelessness as an issue they have the power to help change.
How your school can get involved
There are plenty of ways your school can support Turning Tides, from joining our events to creating your own. A few ideas to spark inspiration:
- Heroes against Homelessness: Dress up as a hero for the day, using this opportunity to have open conversations about homelessness and encouraging donations if appropriate.
- SleepOut: Give up your bed for a night and sleep somewhere unusual – in the playground, the garden or even the bath – and raise sponsorship.
- Your own events: From bake sales to fun runs, talent shows to non-uniform days, we can help you bring your own fundraising ideas to life.
Why it matters
Every pound raised helps us provide services that turn lives around – from community hubs and counselling to safe accommodation and support. At the same time pupils gain valuable skills, a stronger sense of community and the knowledge that they’ve made a real difference.
