Rampion Wind Farm Swimming Challenge 2027
September 2027
Your Next Challenge is on the Horizon…
Take on one of Sussex’s most unique endurance challenges and swim from the iconic Rampion Wind Farm back to Shoreham Beach for local homelessness charity Turning Tides.
Whether you choose to take part as part of a relay team or challenge yourself as an individual swimmer, you’ll cover approximately 15km of open water, testing your determination, resilience and teamwork as you make your way back to shore.
A Challenge with Purpose
On average, someone experiencing rough sleeping walks 11 miles (17.7 km) every day in search of food, shelter, safety, and support. That’s roughly the same distance you’ll swim during the Rampion Swim
Swimming from the Rampion Wind Farm to Shoreham Beach, is a fully supported and professionally managed open water challenge and a chance to test your limits while changing lives.
Every pound raised will help provide vital support to people experiencing homelessness in our West Sussex community, giving them the opportunity to build a brighter future and take the first steps towards a place to call home.
Who Can Take Part
To take part, swimmers should:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be confident swimming in open water conditions.
- Have previous open water swimming experience.
- Be capable of comfortably swimming long distances.
- Be prepared to train regularly in the lead-up to the event.
Relay teams are encouraged, making this challenge accessible to swimmers who may not wish to complete the full distance individually.
Safety is Our Priority
The Rampion Wind Farm Swim is a fully supported and professionally managed event, delivered by experienced open water swimming and will be supported by marine event specialists. A comprehensive safety plan will be in place to support participants throughout the challenge. Safety measures include:
- Dedicated safety boats accompanying swimmers throughout the route.
- Qualified event safety personnel monitoring the challenge at all times.
- Experienced crew members trained in water rescue procedures.
- Medical support available throughout the event.
- Strict swimmer-to-safety-crew ratios.
- Detailed pre-event safety briefings for all participants.
- Continuous assessment of weather, sea and tide conditions.
- Clear withdrawal procedures for swimmers who need assistance or are unable to continue.
- Mandatory equipment requirements and swim caps to ensure high visibility.
Make Every Stroke Count
We’re looking for a team of dedicated swimmers who believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. This is more than an endurance challenge; it’s an opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of people like Ashley and others experiencing homelessness in West Sussex.
