About this event
Celebrate the end of the 11 in January challenge with an 11 mile walk!
To celebrate the end of the 11 in January challenge finishing, the team’s planning to complete an 11 mile walk on Saturday 30th January. This event is open to all to join!
A person who is rough sleeping walks an average of 11 miles every day searching for warmth, safety, food, and somewhere to rest without fear. Our walk will raise awareness of just how physically and mentally demanding this is and much needed funds to run our services providing pathways out of homelessness.
The walk will be starting in Littlehampton @ The Beach Club (Beach Hut 213, Sea Road, BN16 2NA), heading along to Shoreham-by-Sea @ Adur Outdoor Activities Centre. Check out the route on Komoot.
This is not a circular or out-and-back route, so either public transport or being dropped off at the starting point is recommended.
Timing: Meet at 10:00, to set off for 10:15
Distance: 11.4 miles
Duration: Approximately 4 1/2 – 5 hours
Terrain: Pavement, beach paths and grass
Fitness level: Moderate
We will finish at the cafe in Adur Outdoor Activities Centre, where we will enjoy some hot drinks and sweet treats. We will reach the finish at around 15:00.
Getting back from Shoreham:
It is a 15 minute walk to Shoreham Train Station, with trains East towards Brighton or West towards Littlehampton running regularly. In addition, the 700 bus stops right outside and runs East and West along the coast.
Don’t Fancy the Whole Thing?
Please still come along and join us at any point on the route! An easy meeting point could be Worthing Pier, from here it is around 1 hour 30 minutes to Shoreham, just over 4 miles. If you let me know where you will be meeting us, I can keep in touch on the day so you know timings.
Much like the 11 in January Challenge, we want this walk to be adaptable to suit

-
Bring warm layers, the route is exposed along the coast.

Ensure you have applied sun cream as we will be outside for much of the day.
-
If you are feeling unwell before the event, please let me know and don’t attend.
Last year, our services supported over 1,000 people, including more than 400 who came to us for the first time. By taking part in the 11 in January Challenge, you are helping someone move off the streets and begin rebuilding their life with dignity and hope.
As a fundraising incentive, we are offering anyone who raises more than £30 a Turning Tides snood. If you raise more than £50, we will also include a Challenge Yourself top.
