Move On Housing

Our overarching ambition is to support and prepare homeless men and women to live independently in their community. Everyone’s journey out of homelessness is unique and we provide flexible solutions with the eventual aim that clients move out of homelessness, establishing themselves in more permanent accommodation such as social housing or the private rental sector.

To ensure smooth pathways through our services we have specialist panels assessing and matching clients’ aspirations and needs with available opportunities. Support through this journey is both practical and emotional, utilising specialist skills within the organisation, to ensure clients have the skills, resilience and confidence to sustain a positive move.

Access to suitable accommodation, outside of homelessness services, is challenging. There is a recognised national shortage of affordable housing. Aspects such as availability, suitability and sustainability add to the complexities our clients face.

When our clients leave supported accommodation, we offer support via peer led groups.

Jordan’s story

I was born prematurely to parents who were 14 and 16 years old. My mum shook me which led to a bleed on my brain. So I was taken into care, and my parents weren’t allowed to contact me until I turned 16.

I’ve experienced every type of institution you can imagine – care homes, mental health services, prison, hospitals – but only Turning Tides managed to help me turn my life around. They never gave up on me.

All of you who work and support the charity, I owe you everything. I’m a changed man!

Help us to make a difference

There are so many ways you can support the homeless men and women in your community. By supporting us – you are supporting those most vulnerable.

We run an annual programme of amazing events that you can come to or sponsor, or share with others. We recruit volunteers and staff to support the projects we run across the county. We welcome students to join us for their professional placements. We encourage businesses to join us on or DIY days to spruce up an area for our clients whether a garden, bedroom or lounge.

One thing we can promise you is that however you get involved – you will have made a difference.
