Fundraising Volunteer

At Turning Tides, we know that anyone’s life can spiral into homelessness. We bring together compassionate individuals and organisations to transform the lives of people in our local community and change perceptions of homelessness.

We provide a warm safe space to listen to anyone who comes to us for help. Local people experiencing homelessness are supported and empowered to become confident and find the strength and belief in themselves to create a brighter future.

Together we can make a difference and end homelessness where you live.

A bit about the role:

The fundraising team at Turning Tides is a small group of enthusiastic people who need help from like-minded volunteers who are as passionate about the charity as they are.

As an Event Fundraising Volunteer, you will support the planning and execution of fundraising events that help raise vital funds to support local people experiencing homelessness. All events are different and include local fairs and charity fundraising events and supermarket bucket collections.

What will I be doing?

  • Engaging with the public and talking about the charity’s work to encourage new supporters.
  • Running fundraising activities, such as raffles or selling merchandise at events.
  • Collecting donations using buckets, collection tins and our cashless tap-and-go terminals (training and support will be provided).
  •  Helping with event setup and takedown, including arranging gazebos, tables, and displays.

You will be helping us by:

  • Communicating upcoming volunteer opportunities and securing appropriate volunteer attendance for it to run smoothly. This could involve making phone calls, emails, and polls to coordinate and schedule cover
  • Ensuring that all volunteers have the items required to run the stall or community event
  • Checking in and out any fundraising equipment used such as the gazebo, collection tins and cashless donation points
  • Working with the Community Fundraising Officer to ensure we are maximising fundraising opportunities in the community
  • Promptly thanking our volunteers for their time after the event

It is Turning Tides’ hope and expectation that as a volunteer you will:

  • be inclusive and welcoming
  • communicate professionally with the contacts you make
  •  be flexible to the needs of the staff member on duty
  • be consistent, reliable, trustworthy, and honest
  •  be over 18 years of age
  •  be willing to travel – a driving licence and access to a car would be helpful

Times and commitment:

Flexible – ad hoc, various events throughout the year. These events are most likely to fall on evenings and weekends. For all day events, we can run shifts to suit your needs. You would be part of a Fundraising Events pool of volunteers and as community event attendance is booked, we will contact you to ask if you are available. Whether it is hours or days you can give, the time you give really will make a difference.

What training will I receive?

Turning Tides offers volunteers training so your time volunteering is the best it can be, is as safe as possible, and of course adds value to your experience and to Turning Tides.

All volunteers are provided with a copy of Turning Tides Code of Conduct and the Fundraising Code of Conduct and are expected to adhere to this throughout all of their volunteering activities.

Every volunteer regardless of role will have their initial induction. During this induction you will be taken through our Volunteers’ Handbook. The induction will cover Professional Boundaries, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity and be a chance for you to ask any questions.

This role will also require the volunteer to become familiar with some parts of the Fundraising Code of Conduct and the fundraising team will help with this. Training and support will also be given regarding cash handling.

Members of the fundraising team will be present to support you in your role and knowledge of the work that Turning Tides do will be shared.

You will get a T-shirt to wear too!

Additional Information:

All of Turning Tides’ roles require two-character references. These references do not need to be employment references; however, we cannot accept references from family members.

A Driver’s licence is required for this role.
