5K May

May 2021

Be a hero in your community and take part in 5K May for Turning Tides

At the beginning of the pandemic  Run for Heroes, the infamous 5K running challenge, brought more than a million people together – a fantastic fundraiser as well as a viral fitness motivator asking participants to run 5, donate 5 and nominate 5.

Following on from the success of the original fundraiser, the nation is once again being encouraged to get active this May – and we have partnered with Run for Heroes encouraging the community to sign up, have fun and support record numbers of homeless men and women at the same time.

5kMay, as the name suggests, is a whole month all about getting fit and hitting that 5km target. It’s not just about running though – participants could walk, roll, skip or even swim 5k if they wish! All that matters is getting your body moving and raising vital funds for people in need.

We are encouraging everyone to become a hero in May by raising money to support its vital work. We are currently supporting hundreds  of people throughout the county offering a broad range of  services which include supported accommodation, community hubs, outreach and specialist keyworkers. In West Sussex, a record number of some 1,000 homeless men, women and families are in temporary emergency accommodation and more are reaching out for help all the time.

Turning Tides’ Community Fundraising Officer Sophie Moore says:

“The 5KMay challenge is the perfect way to give back to your community whilst getting active. It’s so easy to take part and by nominating your friends and family, it means together we can create the change we want to see in our local community.”

“At Turning Tides we are seeing unprecedented numbers of people needing our support. At our Community hubs we are seeing the true economic impact of Covid, as people’s livelihoods are being taken away. By taking part in 5K May you are showing people who are really struggling that the community is rallying to support them. You will also raise awareness and vital funds needed to help those who have already lost so much. At Turning Tides we are committed to finding lasting solutions so that people have the chance to rebuild their lives. ”

You can take part in a 5k in any activity, donate £5, and then nominate 5 friends or family members to complete their own 5kMay challenge. Fundraise for Turning Tides in 5kMay
