Start The Week Group Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help us facilitate our new group, "Start The Week" from January 2019.

Time : 9.30am - 11.30am Monday Mornings

Location : Chatsworth Hotel, Worthing

“Start the Week”

A task/achievement focused group on Monday mornings at a suitable informal community venue.

The group will be a friendly supportive drop-in for Turning Tides clients who are living, or soon to be living independently. Task setting for the week ahead, “what can I do”, “what do I need to get done this week”.

The environment will be up-beat, motivational and encouraging. There will be plenty of staff, volunteer and peer support to help people to set goals and get things done!

Job searching, volunteer opportunities, meet new people, a can do problem-solving approach to day-to-day tasks that can seem daunting and difficult.

As the group develops, we will introduce speakers to offer information on local resources that may be of use to clients.

Tea & coffee, and a few laughs also available.

As people progress through Turning Tides we encourage them towards greater levels of responsibility for their own progress and recovery.

From direct practical help and assistance from key-workers and other staff we expect to move towards a situation where people plan their own activities, structure their time and begin to solve their own problems.

This group intends to offer a place to get things done. It’s on a Monday morning with the whole week ahead, it’s the time to get-up, get out, and set yourself some tasks and targets. You then have the rest of the week to achieve them.

It will be a safe-space for people who really want to achieve and move forward. Lots of encouragement and help when necessary but also a clear expectation of achieving things yourself.

When looking at outcomes we would hope to be able to see improvements in a person’s; Problem solving, self-confidence, knowledge of local resources and time management.

In relation to the Domains of Community Inclusion we will seek to improve:

  • Meaningful activity
  • Community
  • Self esteem

We would also want to work towards a significant degree of client/volunteer self-facilitation.
