St Clares Community Hub Breakfast Club Cooks & Helpers

A bit about the role:

  • To create a warm and welcoming environment for our clients
  • To prepare, cook and serve the breakfast items

What goes on here?

St Clare’s Community Hub is open throughout the year and offers a drop in service for anyone who needs access to our services. A breakfast service is available every morning.

St Clare’s Day Centre hosts the local rough sleeper’s team, which is a multi-agency approach to end rough sleeping in the town. The team incorporates assertive outreach and local intelligence and pulls together resources to find, offer and implement solutions.

Services include hot and cold food, showers, clothing, laundry, I.T. provision, advice, information and signposting. The service is a referral route into local supported housing. The service is also a Wi-Fi hotspot.

What will I be doing?

  • Greeting clients
  • Taking their breakfast orders
  • Serving hot and cold drinks
  • Preparing, cooking and serving the breakfast food.
  • After breakfast session has finished to clean the kitchen (floors, worktops, oven, etc)
  • We have three volunteers on each shift with one volunteer taking the responsibility of cooking and the other two volunteers supporting the cook

What Training will I receive?

Turning Tides offers volunteers training so your time volunteering is the best it can be, is as safe as possible, and of course adds value to your experience and to Turning Tides.

Every volunteer regardless of role will have their initial induction. The induction will cover Professional Boundaries, Safeguarding, and Equality and Diversity and you will be issued with a volunteer handbook and code of conduct.  You will also have a site-specific health and safety site specific induction.  There will be a chance for you to ask any questions.

Each role has specific online training that you need to commit to complete. Dependant on role this can be between 30 mins to 1 hr. This will be discussed further at your induction.

Commitment and Timeframe

It is Turning Tides’ hope and expectation that as a volunteer you will:

  • Be inclusive and welcoming
  • Communicate with staff on duty
  • Be flexible to the needs of the staff member on duty
  • Abide by the Confidentiality, Professional Boundaries and Health and Safety Policies at all times

Sign Up Process

All of Turning Tides’ roles require two character references. These references do not need to be employment references, however, we cannot accept references from family members.

Millions of people in England are only one pay cheque away from being homeless.

Turning Tides have provided support to thousands of local men and women in West Sussex for almost 30 years.

We provide a warm, safe space to listen to anyone who comes to us for help. Our support services empower people to find the strength and belief in themselves to create a brighter future.
